GAL Q10 + MCT

There are two forms of Q10: the reduced form (ubiquinol) and the unreduced form (ubiquinone). Naturally, only the non-reduced form can be produced (ideally through plant fermentation), but both forms are present in our bodies and in food, and we need both.

Both forms occur in our food, in roughly equal proportions; however, as the reduced form is highly sensitive to heat, oxygen and acidic conditions – and immediately breaks down into the unreduced form when exposed to these factors – in practice we can only obtain the unreduced form through our diet. Our bodies also synthesise the non-reduced form; this task is carried out by the liver. From an evolutionary perspective, therefore, direct access to the non-reduced form seems more natural. The non-reduced form is then reduced within our bodies with the help of an enzyme, when and where it is needed. An ideal balance between the two forms is quickly established, regardless of which form enters our body.

The advantage of the reduced form in terms of absorption, as shown in studies, stems from the fact that it is slightly water-soluble, whilst the unreduced form is not soluble at all and, indeed, dissolves poorly even in fat at room temperature. Q10 (whichever form) consumed in a non-crystal-free solution cannot be absorbed to any significant extent, as the melting point of the crystals is above our body temperature.
